Reading

In Otter class children should be reading at home daily where possible and at least 3 times a week to an adult. Reading aloud is key, because it allows you to discuss what is being read and ask questions about it which helps with the children's understanding of the text.

Should your child be reluctant to read why not read TO them? Take it in turns or read aloud and then discuss the characters or what has just happened in the text. Try to predict what might happen next.

Magazine articles can provide a rich source of information and expose the children to a different style of writing and sentence structure which is all valuable learning.

Should you need any help with choosing books to read with your child or for them to read independently, please ask as we do have a selection at school which I am happy to lend out.

Below are some suggestions for reading with your child and some book titles they may enjoy.
